Repositioning IFP as a supportive organisation for the Chicago filmmaker
CHALLENGE
The challenge presented to us by IFP was to design for the individual filmmaker in Chicago to enable them to sustain a career in Chicago and reposition IFP as an organisation that could pioneer such a change.
PROCESS OVERVIEW
We conducted informal and formal interviews to test some of the early hypotheses that emerged through contextual research with filmmakers, directors, producers, film lecturers, directors at IFP to gain an understanding of the Chicago filmmaker's view and journey of making a film .
CLIENT
Independent Filmmakers Project (IFP), Chicago
TEAM
Ian O Donell, Jenni Schneiderman, Xinuye Zhou
MY ROLE
Contextual and User Research, Analysis, Synthesis, Concept Scenarios, Concept development and visualisation
Further all of the data from primary and secondary research was structured and analysed by the team to build insights about what were the barriers and support systems in place for a filmmaker. The insights were used to build design principles that would serve as a foundation to build an array of solutions for IFP.
CONCEPT SCENARIOS
Using the design principles we were able to visualize some potential scenarios and solution spaces for IFP. The scenarios envision how IFP could leverage the filmmaker community to build outreach as well as enable Chicago filmmakers to anticipate and tackle hurdles that arise in the filmmaking process.
